Niall is driven to achieve energy efficiency and sustainability goals and targets with a passion for sustainable design. He has a comprehensive academic and professional background with extensive experience in the built environment and energy sectors.

Since completing a Masters in Energy Systems more than a decade ago, Niall has dedicated his career to improving energy efficiency and sustainability in the built environment. Niall actively seeks best practice solutions to today’s energy efficiency challenges and believes in a multi-disciplinary approach. Valuing proactive over reactive, Niall strives to bring the building standards of the future to the present.

Niall understands the challenges faced by developers and project teams in the changing energy efficiency landscape. Seeking collaboration and providing informed technical guidance, Niall and the EVNA Engineering team are ready to help clients not only meet, but exceed project energy and cost targets.

EXPERIENCE

Compliance energy modelling for new construction (SB-10, TGS, SBD) and calibrated energy modelling for existing buildings

Measurement and Verification reviews of energy models for TGS and HPNC

Energy audits and building performance evaluations

Attend design and site meetings throughout construction; defining sustainability targets and reviewing progress

Facilitated Integrated Design Process and implemented sustainability strategies for new construction projects

Coordinated and tracked LEED, Toronto Green Standard and other green building standard documentation and reviewed for compliance

Modelled building energy performance for building code, LEED compliance and other incentive programs such as Savings by Design and HPNC

Interpreted architectural, mechanical and electrical drawings to create 3D models in IES VE for a wide range of projects across Ontario; including office, multi-unit residential and industrial/warehouse

Analyzed, interpreted results and proposed feasible energy efficiency improvements for building envelope and HVAC

Monitored and controlled building systems and how they interact with renewable technologies

Lead on sustainability assessments for new construction and major refurbishment projects; from feasibility and design to post construction stages ensuring compliance with BREEAM

Managed the monitoring and evaluation of over 50 government funded community renewable energy projects across Scotland

SKILLS

Strong experience in energy modelling software IES VE and other simulation software for renewable technologies

Proficient with AutoCAD in engineering applications

Extensive experience with Microsoft Office in producing concise and well-presented reports, graphs and tables
